Don’t clean your pond filter completely
Cleaning too thoroughly can unnecessarily disrupt the biological system in your filter.
Tip
A pond filter collects debris while also providing a habitat for microorganisms involved in breaking down and transforming substances in the pond water. Cleaning the entire filter thoroughly at once can temporarily disrupt this biological system.
Remove accumulated debris where necessary, but handle the biological filter media carefully. Ideally, rinse it lightly with pond water and prevent the material from drying out. Do not use cleaning products.
Do not automatically clean all parts of the filter at the same time. The mechanical section can usually be cleaned more thoroughly than the biological filter media. Always follow the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions.
After maintenance, check that the pump is working properly and that enough water is flowing through the filter. Then give the pond system time to settle again.

Clean the mechanical and biological sections of the filter separately. Remove debris from the mechanical section and only gently rinse the biological filter media with pond water when necessary.
Do not allow the filter media to dry out, and restart the filter as soon as possible after maintenance. Monitor the water circulation and fish behaviour for the next few days. Do not automatically add products: first give the pond system time to stabilise.
