Protect the pump and pipes before the first frost.

Completely drain switched-off pipes and equipment and protect frost-sensitive components.

Tip

Protect the pump and pipes before the first frost.

The first night frost can come unexpectedly. Water standing in above-ground hoses, a UV unit, or switched-off equipment can freeze, expand, and damage components.

Determine in good time which parts of your installation will continue to run during the winter. A pump that is deemed suitable for continued operation by the manufacturer must continue to supply sufficient water and must not run dry. Switch off your equipment and then completely drain hoses, pipes, and housings.

Clean loose equipment according to the manufacturer's instructions and store frost-sensitive parts in a dry, frost-free place. Some pumps are stored wet to protect seals; always follow the product manual for this.

After winterizing, check that no water can remain standing anywhere and note which valves you have closed. This prevents damage and makes it easier to start up the system again in the spring.

BIOGRO advice

Do not wait for the first real frost. Make a short checklist of the pump, UV unit, hoses, valves, and couplings in advance, and follow the manufacturer's manual for each component.
